Top 10 Largest Waterfall in India: One of the unique features of the Indian subcontinent is the monsoon. Monsoon in India is an experience that everyone should have. Monsoon time is very pleasant in India. Due to monsoon the natural beauty of the country and the flow of rivers increases greatly. The waterfalls are formed in creeks with the arrival of monsoon. It is surrounded by colorful flowers and lush green trees and plants. It looks very beautiful. The view of the water flowing from the height is very spectacular. There are some waterfalls which stand out from the rest due to their height and strength.

The highest waterfalls are found in the mountainous region of North East India. When a river or a mountain makes a big slope and the water falls down from that big slope, it is called a waterfall; which can range from 50 feet to 4000 feet altitude. 1. Kunchikal falls

This waterfall is present in Nidagundi Village of Karnataka which is a village in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Its height is 445 meters. This waterfall gives birth to a river named Varahi here. This waterfall, rising from the mountains of the high beautiful panoramic Western Ghats, is the highest waterfall in India and also the most picturesque waterfall, there is always a gathering of tourists here.

2. Barehipani Falls

Barehipani Falls is located in the Mayurbhanj district of Orissa, India which is present in Simlipal National Park. This waterfall is the second highest waterfall in India with a total height of 399 meters. This waterfall, which originates from the Budhabalanga River of the Meghasani Mountains, a range of mountains of the Eastern Ghats, is a very picturesque waterfall.

3. Nohkalikai falls

The Nohkalikai falls is the 3rd highest waterfalls in India and called the highest waterfall in Northeast India. The height of this waterfall is 337 meters. This waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in India. It is located near Cherrapunji in East Khasi Hills district Meghalaya. It rains continuously at this place.  Therefore, the weather here always remains pleasant. The waterfall here always flows due to continuous rain. This very picturesque waterfall present in the forests of the Khaha mountains. Therefore, the gathering of tourists is seen a lot here.

4. Nohsngithiang Falls or  or Mawsmai Falls

This waterfall is also known as Seven Sister Waterfall  or Mawsmai Fall. Because it is divided into seven parts. This waterfall is 1 kilometer away from  or Mawsmai village in Meghalaya and it falls in the East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya.  it is is 4th largest waterfalls India falling from a height of 315 meters from the mountain.

5. Dudhsagar falls

Dudhsagar falls from the mountains of the Western Ghats, originating from the Mandovi River in Goa. It is 60 km far from Panaji, the capital of Goa. Lord Mahavir Sanctuary is also present near this waterfall. It is situated on the border of Karnataka and Goa state. There are very picturesque dense forests are present around this waterfall. In the monsoon season, the gathering of tourists here seems tremendous. Located in Goa, this waterfall is up to 320 meters high, which makes it the fifth highest waterfall in India.

5. Kynrem Falls

Kynrem Falls also falls in the East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya.  It is located at a distance of 12 km from Cherrapunji and also has Thangkharang Park, which makes it very beautiful.  This makes it the seventh highest waterfall in India.

6. Meenmutty Falls

Kerala is also called God’s own home, as Kerala is surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Western Ghats. There are the highest mountains , which are one of the highest peaks of South India. Therefore, having a high waterfall here is also a valid thing.  Meenmutty Falls is the largest and most spectacular waterfall, Located in Wayanad district of Kerala. This waterfall is up to 300 meters high, which makes it the eighth highest waterfall in India.

7. Thalaiyar waterfalls

The Thalaiyar waterfalls situated in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu are counted among some of the most beautiful waterfalls in India. It is also known as Red Tails Waterfall. This waterfall is one of the tallest waterfalls in South India at Devadanapatti in Theni district of Tamil Nadu.  This waterfall is 267 meters high.

8. Barkana Falls

Barkana Falls is the tenth highest waterfall in India located in Shimoga, Karnataka. It also falls down from the mountains of the Western Ghats. This waterfall is up to 259 meters high, which makes it the tenth highest waterfall in India. It is formed by the Sita river present in Karnataka itself.

9. Jog Falls

Jog Falls is a waterfall on the Sharavathi River located in the Western Ghats near Sagar Taluk in Shimoga District of Karnataka.  It is the second highest plunge waterfall in India.  It is a fractured waterfall that depending on the slope and weather becomes a plunge waterfall. Jog Falls is formed by Sharavati falling 253 m. The falls are a major attraction for tourists.

10. Khandadhar Falls

Khandadhar Falls is located at Nandapani in Bonaigarh in the Sundargarh district of the state of Odisha, India.  It is the 12th highest waterfall in India and the second highest waterfall in Odisha. It resembles Talwar, hence the name Khanda (Sword) Dhara Falls.  Korapanal Nala, a small stream, falls in a drop from a height of 244 m.
